Cape Town's epic week of football, music and kites

The City’s Events Permit Office has permitted 39 events taking place this week. Here are some highlights of what you can expect.
This week, Cape Town is hosting grassroots football, Premier Soccer League football, the kite festival and a music festival on back-to-back days – to name a few.
The 39 permitted events are anticipated to attract more than 105 000 spectators and participants.
The Cape Town CBD and surrounds are expected to be busy over the weekend with at least nine events taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
‘We are heading into a busy season of events in Cape Town, especially around the CBD area. This uptick in events represents many opportunities for SMMEs, hotels, restaurants, retail, suppliers, artists and general workers who benefit from the greater events ecosystem. We hope that residents and visitors will take advantage of the good weather to experience the entertainment, vibrancy and energy brought by the events in Cape Town. We also understand that events have an impact on our roads and some residential areas. The City’s events teams work closely with event organisers to mitigate the effect on traffic and on businesses,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
Cape Town Country Music Festival
The two-day Cape Town Country Music Festival, taking place at the DHL Stadium, leads a busy weekend of events in the city centre and surrounds.
The festival will feature eight international country artists and 10 local country artists over two days on 26 and 27 October.
Billed as the largest Country Music Festival in the world, outside the US, patrons can expect performances from some of the biggest names including the Zac Brown Band, Brothers Osborne, Kip Moore, Craig Morgan and many more.

Coke Cup Finals
The SAFA Cape Town Coke Cup Finals, the pinnacle of amateur football in the Mother City, is taking place at Athlone Stadium on Saturday, 26 October 2024.
A platform for emerging footballers, the tournament pits together 580 senior men’s clubs, 82 senior ladies clubs and 340 youth clubs over six months of competition.
The finals will see the top two teams in each category battling for the opportunity to be crowned champions and win some prize money.
The 2024 U/18 final will see Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town go up against Hanover Park FC at 13:00.
The ladies final will be a battle between UCT and Philippi’s Dangerous Heroes Football at 16:30.
At 18:30, Mitchells Plain’s FC Tafelzucht and Parow’s Vasco Da Gama will be playing the decider in the senior men’s final
Tickets are available at Quicket for as little as R10. Spectators can also purchase tickets at SAFA Cape Town’s office in Johnston Road, Rygate.
Gates open at 12:00.
Cape Town City FC
The Citizens will be in Betway Premiership action against Limpopo-based Magesi FC at Athlone Stadium on Sunday, 27 October.
The game forms part of Cape Town City’s #FreeFootballForAll initiative with the City of Cape Town, which allows free access to 10,000 fans for eight home league games at Athlone Stadium.
Free tickets for the game can be collected at Cape Town City’s offices at 54 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town CBD during game week or at the Athlone Stadium ticket office on game day.
Kickoff is at 15:00.
Cape Town International Kite Festival
As part of Mental Health Awareness, Cape Mental Health will host its Cape Town International Kite Festival Pop-Up Fly this weekend.
Held at Melkbosstrand Beach on Sunday, 27 October, the event encourages residents and visitors to fly kites of all shapes and sizes for mental health awareness.
In addition, the event offers a safe space for people to speak openly about mental health and their lived experiences of mental health.
Through the 2024 theme, “Hope On A String”, the kite festival aims to break barriers, prejudices and stigma surrounding mental health and, ultimately, offer hope and support to those who need it.
The Pop-Up Fly will run from 10:00 until 15:00 at Melkbosstrand Beach.
